Bring the Cheese! Playlist for February 23, 2009

Italo-Disco and Synthpop were major players today. Ran across some technical difficulties on a couple of occasions, but otherwise the show went well. Nola sludge metal also got focus, because tomorrow is Mardi Gras. I'd highly recommend Acid Bath's When The Kite String Pops to anyone. It is one of the most poetically violent and haunting albums I ever heard. If you liked Deadboy and the Elephant Man, you owe it to yourself to see where Dax Riggs started. On with the playlist.

1) Acid Bath- Blue (When the Kite String Pops)
2) Crowbar- The Lasting Dose (Sonic Excess in its Purest Form)
3) Eyehategod- Methamphetamine (Dopesick)
4) Olivier Messiaen- Premieres Fusees
5) Johan Soderqvist- Then We Are Together (Let the Right One In Soundtrack)
6) Gonzales- Gogol (Solo Piano)
7) Gary Numan- Films (The Pleasure Principle)
8) Seed Organization Meets Richie Phoe- Zebra (Northern Faction 4)
9) Dubmatix- Black Madonna Dub (Northern Faction 4)
10) Boytronic- You (The Working Model)
11) Space- Magic Fly (Magic Fly)
12) Radiorama- Aliens (Best of Radiorama)
13) Fancy- Bolero (Greatest Hits)
14) Mathematik- If It Isn't (No Division)
15) DL Incognito- Claim to Fame (A Captured Moment in Time)

80s synthpop would not be complete without imagery, so below are some of the best music videos ever :P

And on the subject of 80s cheese, here is the trailer for one of the best movies ever made. Seriously, it's better than 8/10 best pictures to come out in the last ten years.

Borderlands Radio: A Shoutout to Ben

I'm a couple days late with this one (been waist deep in midterms), but I would like to extend a huge thanks for Benny "Dreadful" Denes for allowing me to sit in as a guest on the fantastic Boderlands Radio. I had a blast and look forward to sharing the microphone with Ben in the future.

Tune-in to Borderlands Radio every Wednesday from 8-8:30 PM on CJAM 91.5 FM, or stream at cjam.ca. It's news from the other side like no other!

Playlist for February 9, 2008

I originally didn't have any theme in mind for the show today, but early in the show I decided to spin a lot of world music. The World Music selections are in red, though acts like Om and Comets on Fire have large eastern tantric and psychedelic influences in them.

While I'm two weeks late, I would also want to acknowledge Mick Harvey's departure from Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds after 25 years. It has been almost impossible to imagine the music of Nick Cave without Mick Harvey as his axeman. I wish Mick Harvey the best in his solo efforts and am anxious to see what Mick and Nick do next, regardless of no longer collaborating.

Setlist:
Comets on Fire- Dogwood Rust (Avatar)
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds- Cabin Fever (From Her to Eternity)
Om- Bhima's Theme (Pilgrimmage)
Parmela Attaruwala- Whispers of the Water (Sapphire Skies)
Shashi-Lata Virk- Labe Lalli Sharah Kee Batein (Dreams)
Bombay Dub Orchestra- Map of Dusk (3 Cities)
Abraham Eetak- Willow's Song (Willow's Song)
Himiko- Nanika Ga Hajimaru (Shippo o Tsukame)
Bad Brains- Fearless Vampire Killers (S/T)
Duke Ellington- Fleurette Africaine (Money Junkies)
Masia One- Head in the Clouds (Pulau)
Toy Killers- Bleed for the Mind (The Unlistenable Years)
Horde of Two- Conversations in a Berlin Train Station (Guitar and Bass Actions)
Michael Matthews- On the Outer Edge (Cult Figures- Electroacoustic Music from Canada)

First Post, Jumping on the blogwagon

On a whim I decided to create a blog for Juxtaposition Jukebox. This blog will serve as a means of posting playlists, and linking up with all the other quality blogs affiliated with Cjam, Uwindsor, and whatnot.

Without further ado, here is the playlist for Monday February 2, 2009. The format is artist-song title (album title).

1) Combichrist- All Pain is Gone (Today We Are All Demons)
2) Christer- How do you like it: Cadaver (Techna)
3) :Wumpscut:- Down Where We Belong (Embryodead)
4) The Tree Streets- White Girl (Right to Stand)
5) Satyricon- Black Crow on A Tombstone (The Age of Nero)
6) Einsturzende Neubauten- Zeichnungen Des Patienten O.T. (Zeichnungen Des Patienten O.T.)
7) Godflesh- Mothra (Pure)
8) Furs- Funky Candidate (Streets of Rage)
9) Coil- Ostia [The Death of Pasolini] (Horse Rotorvator)
10) Six Organs of Admittance- Bless Your Blood (The Sun Awakens)
11) The Bicycles- Can I Keep Calling You Baby? (Oh No, It's Love)
12) Rah Rah- I've Got Faith (Going Steady)
13) Electroluminescent- Rattle Around the Corner (S/T)
14) My Dear Disco- Amsterdam (Dancethink)

No theme or focus for this week's show, though it features many electronic music acts, particularly industrial and ebm. Electroluminescent I'd highly recommend for any krautrock fan, it's good stuff!
